MIDBAND™ Adjustable Gastric Band

MIDBAND™ Adjustable Gastric Band

Healthbase - MIDBAND Adjustable Gastric Banding, Obesity, Weight loss surgery

MIDBAND™ is an adjustable gastric band . It is a low pressure silicone band that is placed around the outside of the stomach by minimally invasive surgery (keyhole surgery).

MIDBAND™ consists of three parts:
1. An inflatable band
2. Small titanium reservoir (or port)
3. A narrow silicone tube (catheter) linking the port to the band.

Placement of the MIDBAND™

A general anaesthetic is used so you will be asleep for this operation. The MIDBAND™ is fitted via a 12mm trocar.

The MIDBAND™ is placed around the upper part of the stomach laparoscopically . Following band placement, in conjunction with band adjustment (inflation or 'fill'), a resulting constriction of the stomach is achieved at the level of band placement. This constriction slows the passage of food to the stomach below making the person feel full only after a light meal thereby limiting food intake and achieving weight loss. Band adjustment allows the diameter through which the food passes to be widened or narrowed as clinically indicated.

Gastric banding procedure is considered to be reversible – with another keyhole operation.

Over a period of time the band can be adjusted (inflated/'filled') during an outpatient appointment in a specialist weight loss surgery centre.

The MIDBAND™ is used in Europe and in several other continents.

Manufacturer: The Médical Innovation Développement Company, France
