OBESITY RATES CLIMB IN THE US

According to the Trust for America's Health, a research group that focuses on disease prevention, obesity rates increased in 31 states last year and no state showed a decline.

The State of Mississippi became the first state to cross the 30 percent barrier for adult residents considered to be obese with West Virginia and Alabama following closely behind.

Overweight people are at an increased risk for diabetes, heart problems and other chronic diseases.

Health officials note that the latest findings provide evidence that the nation has a public health crisis on its hands.
