Denture

Denture is a prosthetic device, which is removable replacement for missing teeth and the tissues surrounding the missing teeth.

Type of Denture

  • Partial denture - used for replacement for only few teeth.
Partial denture also prevents other natural teeth in the mouth from changing their position.
  • Complete denture - used for replacement for all the teeth
    • Conventional complete denture.
Conventional complete denture are made after the teeth it is going to replace are extracted and gum tissue healing is complete (usually 3 months after the extraction). This way the shrinkage in bones and gums during the healing period is taken into the design of the denture.
    • Conventional immediate denture.
Conventional immediate denture are made in advance so that they can be put on soon after the teeth extraction is done. Since shrinkage in bones and gums during the healing period is not taken into the design of the denture, this denture needs adjustments down the line. Conventional immediate denture is usually a temporary denture until the patient is ready for a Conventional complete denture.
