Dr T Ravintharan

Dr. Ravi was awarded the Merit Scholarship by the Public Service Commission to do his M.B.B.S. degree and graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1982. The Ministry of Health, Singapore, awarded him traineeship in Surgery and in 1987 he completed his fellowship examinations by the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh (FRCSEd) and M. Med (Surgery) National University of Singapore. In 1991, he went to Scotland to train with world renowned Professor Sir Alfred Cuschieri in the very new and fast expanding field of Minimal Access (Laparoscopic) Surgery.

Upon his return, he pioneered several major Laparoscopic procedures in Singapore and has been involved in teaching and training Surgeons in Singapore and around the region in this new field of surgery. In 1993, he obtained his FAMS & FICS membership. In 1997, he left the public hospitals and set up private practice as a Senior Consultant Surgeon at Mt. Elizabeth Medical Centre. He is a Visiting Consultant to several public hospitals for Pediatric & Adult Laparoscopic Surgery. He is accredited at the various private hospitals. He was awarded the PBM (Public Service Medal) by the President for service rendered in the Hotel New World collapse.

Currently, his practice includes major Laparoscopic procedures that include treatment for obesity, diseases & cancers in the abdominal organs e.g. adrenal gland, spleen, liver, pancreas, small intestines, colon & stomach, hernias, gallstone & its complications, heartburn or reflux esophagitis & hiatus Hernia. Emergency Laparoscopic surgery for the appendix, trauma and other acute abdominal conditions in all age groups and pregnant patients are also carried out. Laparoscopic procedures with other specialists e.g. removal of Kidneys etc. are also done. He travels and continues to train and exchange experience with fellow surgeons in Singapore and the region in the field of Minimal Access Surgery.
