Dr. Virdi's areas of expertise include:Heart and lung surgery of Adults including transplantations of thoracic organs both heart and lungs, Coronary Artery Surgery, Valvular Heart Disease in particular repair of the mitral valve, arrhythmia surgery(especially for atrial fibrillation).  Aortic root surgery, thoracic aortic dissections, aneurysms and lung surgery especially for cancer remain his major areas of interest.  He is also formally trained in 'Robotic Heart Surgery', a modality which is going to be introduced soon, in Max Heart&Vascular Institute, New Delhi.

His major research interest revolves around myocardial presercation. Dr. Virdi, in collaboration with a team of scientists from the James Cook University, is currently involved in a research programme for developing a new Cardioplegic solution for arrested heart surgery and pharmacological stabilisation for Beating heart Surgery. Dr.Virdi has published many articles in several peer reviewed journals and has trained more than a dozen cardiothoracic surgeons who are now running successful cardiac surgical programmes, of their own.  He is available for consultations at MaxHeart&Vascular Institute, Saket.

Education and Training

* Post graduation in General Surgery and obtained his MS from the Govt. Medical College, Patiala. 
* M.Ch in Cardiothoracic Surgery from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh.
* FRCS from Edinburgh University
* FRCS in Cardio-thoracic Surgery from the Inter Collegiate Board. Senior surgical career beckoned him to the Australian Heart and Lung Transplant unit at St.Vincent's Hospital in Sydney, Australia.

Fellowships:
* Fellow in Cardiothoracic Surgery at British Heart Foundation, England
* Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons(FRACS).
