International Training / Qualifications / Experience

Dr. Ansgar C. Cheng is an Adjunct Associate Professor with the National University of Singapore, a Consultant (Department of Restorative Dentistry) at the National University Hospital and an Examiner (Prosthodontics) with the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. He is also a member of eMenders: Specialist Medical Care, a group of more than 50 leading specialists covering over 25 speciality areas of medicine and dentistry in Singapore.

He received his dental degree from the University of Hong Kong (1990) with distinction, Master of Science and Certificate in Prosthodontics from Northwestern University, Chicago (1992) and a Certificate in Maxillofacial Prosthetics from UCLA (1993). He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and a Member of the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons (Prosthodontics).

Before moving to Singapore in 2004, Dr. Cheng spent 11 years in Toronto, Canada. He was the Head of Maxillofacial Prosthetics at the Princess Margaret Hospital (the largest cancer hospital in Canada), a Consultant to the Department of Otolaryngology (ENT) at the Toronto General Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Prosthodontics with the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Toronto. He also maintained a successful private practice in Toronto, Canada. He was also the Past President of the Chinese Canadian Dental Society.

Dr. Cheng was recently appointed by the Singapore Minister of Health to sit on the Dental Specialist Accreditation Board and is a member of the Dental Specialist Assessment Committee (Prosthodontics). He is the Vice-Chair of the Chapter of Dental Surgeons of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore and a committee member of the Prosthodontic Society of Singapore. He is also a member of the Association of Prosthodontists of Canada and the International Society for Maxillofacial Rehabilitation.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Cheng is a member of the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, the International Journal of Prosthodontics and the Singapore Dental Journal. He was the recipient of the Judson C. Hickey Scientific Writing Award from the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry in 1997, 1998 and 2000 and has published over 100 scientific papers and abstracts in peer-reviewed professional journals. He was also as a speaker at conferences and seminars locally and in Japan, Canada, USA, Taiwan, Malaysia, Cambodia and Hong Kong.

Dr. Cheng has a special interest in the areas of dental implants, dentures, crowns, cosmetic dentistry and dental research. He is also very experienced in treating patients with unique medical conditions, particularly cancer patients.
