Dr Brenes J, is a Board Certified Neurosurgeon in Costa Rica, specializing in the management of spinal disorders as well as surgery of the brain.

Dr Brenes completed his medical training in the Universidad Autonoma de Centroamerica (1981-1986), after that he did his residency at Hospital Calderon Guardia in San Jose, Costa Rica, one of the bigger Public Hospitals in the country  (1987-1992).  He received the “Best Resident Award in the Surgical Area” in upon graduation in 1991.

Since 1992 to 2005 he worked in the same Hospital and begun his private practice in Hospital Clinica Biblica, a private Hospital with more than 75 years of history.

At this moment he works only in the private practice in Clinica Biblica Hospital.

After his residency, further training and study was pursued at different Hospitals such as Baylor College, Methodist Hospital with Professor R. Narayan; University of Texas with Professor Guy Clifton (mini-sabatical) and also participated as active member of AOSpine in different courses; in Santiago, Chile 2003 ; San Jose,Costa Rica 2005( Interactive Course) ;  Cancun, Mexico 2005(Complex Spinal Issues Symposium); Bogota, Colombia 2005(Combined Prodisc Cervical and Lumbar Spine Arthoplasty Course) with Dr. Rudolf Bertagnoli and AOSpine  Master Course in Switzerland in December 2006. June 2007 Cadaveric Spinal Course, Buenos Aires Argentina.

Also observership in Santiago, Chile with Dr Bartolome Marre ( AOSI Educational Chairman) (2005) and in Curitiba, Brasil with Dr. Luiz Vialle (AOSI Regional Chairman)(2006).

Since 1992 as Neurosurgeon he performed different approaches to spinal pathologies with more than two thousand neurosurgical  procedures.
