Dr. Jayanth SampathPediatric Orthopedics Dr Jayanth Sampath is a product of Madras Medical College, one of the oldest medical institutions in India. He left for the UK in 1994 having passed his PLAB test. He spent 2 years in Basic Surgical Training in various UK hospitals and passed his FRCS Edinburgh examination in 1997.
Dr Jayanth Sampath successfully obtained a placement as a Specialist Registrar in the North West Orthopaedic Training Programme, Manchester, UK in 1998. He obtained excellent general orthopaedic training over the next 4 years. But he knew from an early stage that his calling was in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr Jayanth Sampath had seen the social and economic impact of disability in India and felt strongly that it was important to address this unmet need in India.
Having completed his orthopaedic training between 1998 and 2002 as a Specialist Registrar, he was selected for a Clinical Fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at the prestigious Alfred I Dupont Hospital for Children, Wilmington, Delaware, USA. During his fellowship year in the USA, Dr Jayanth Sampath trained under some of the foremost Paediatric Orthopaedic surgeons in the world. He obtained specific training in the management of cerebral palsy, neuromuscular conditions, limb and spinal deformity. He returned to Manchester in 2003 for a further Fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedics and Deformity correction surgery. He also obtained his FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics) degree and UK Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in 2004.
Dr Jayanth Sampath was appointed as a Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2004 where he practiced until he returned to India in October 2010. He was well regarded by his colleagues and patients. He has appeared in TV programmes in the UK due to his association with the Andrew Flintoff Foundation. He has over 20 publications in international journals, in addition to numerous presentations and book chapters.
His expertise includes the entire range of bone and joint conditions and trauma in children including DDH, Perthes disease, clubfeet and complex limb deformities. He also has an interest in the management of complex foot deformities and neuromuscular problems (cerebral palsy, spina bifida, poliomyelitis, etc) in adult patients. He is in the process of setting up a full fledged 3-D Gait laboratory for the detailed computerized analysis of abnormal gait in children and adults, a first of its kind in South India.
