Gleneagles Hospital Singapore

Gleneagles Hospital  - A Parkway Health Hospita, Singapore

380 bed private tertiary acute care hospital providing a wide range of medical and surgical services for the total management of patients. Gleneagles' key strengths include its patient focus, user-friendly services, quality care, specialists' expertise and proven technology. Gleneagles is accredited with the Joint Commission International (JCI), the world leader in improving the quality of healthcare.

Beginnings and Milestones

It might surprise some that the hospital grew to its present stature from modest beginnings. Founded in 1957, it was a 45-bed nursing home, which expanded to become a 126-bed hospital offering a complete range of services and facilities in 1979.

Parkway Holdings Ltd bought the hospital in 1987 and extended its healthcare services to

encompass hospital management and consultancy services. At the end of 1990, the Sleep Laboratory and Rehabilitation Therapy Units were introduced, followed soon by the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The growth was rapid. By 1993, Gleneagles had become a tertiary healthcare hospital with a ten-storey hospital building and growing subsidiaries in the healthcare business. The Gleneagles Medical Centre was commissioned in 1994. Housing 150 medical specialists, it has established itself as a premier tertiary acute care hospital. By 1997, it had expanded to 380 beds.

Recognising its transformation, the Singapore Productivity & Standards Board (PSB) (now known as SPRING Singapore) awarded the hospital with the Singapore Quality Class in April 2000.

With its strong focus on learning healthcare services, Gleneagles has tied up with renowned international institutions such as Johns Hopkins University and Hospital in the United States (US), Thames Valley University in United Kingdom (UK), and Curtin University of Technology and La Trobe University in Australia.

Gleneagles also places a strong emphasis on staff development. No effort is spared in continuing education, and training for staff career development and systems are put in place to monitor their skill development and service improvement.

Reflecting its exceptional and best practices in staff training and development, Gleneagles won the National Training Award (Service Sector Category) in November 2000. In the same year, the hospital was also awarded the People Developer Standard for its commitment to human resource development.

Gleneagles will pursue its vision to be the most customer friendly leading edge tertiary hospital in the region while maintaining its contributions to Singapore early in the 21st Century. As part of its relentless efforts to raise quality standards, it has continued to participate actively in the National Quality Circles Convention.

Gleneagles' more recent developments include the opening of Gleneagles Clinical Research Centre to facilitate clinical trials and research within the Parkway Group hospitals. With this initiative, physicians and patients have increased access to cutting-edge medicine, promising new treatments before they become widely available.

Gleneagles continues to march forward in the knowledge that we are among the cream of the crop in medical healthcare.

People Development Standard

Gleneagles is a strong believer in development of its staff. It is this belief that has brought about an "A" class team that is highly professional, dedicated and always ready to go the extra mile.

It also clinched the hospital the People Developer Standard in June 2002. This award by SPRING Singapore is presented to organisations that achieve a high quality standard for people development.

It was awarded to Gleneagles in recognition of the hospital's commitment in investing in its people and having a comprehensive system in place for people development activities.

Our process of staff development comprises a thorough training needs analysis for each staff, career development plans, allocation of resources and communicating developmental plans to the staff. Subsequently, an evaluation of the training effectiveness is carried out in relation to business goals and objectives.

We are proud to have achieved the People Developer Standard and will continue to press ahead with our programme to develop staff professional skills to upkeep our high standard of service.

At Gleneagles, we aim to build a vibrant and dynamic culture of lifelong learning in our staff through formal training sessions, acquisition of new skills and knowledge, and keeping abreast of rapid changes in technology and healthcare.

Singapore Quality Class

Gleneagles Hospital relates well with quality - our hallmark.

It obtained the Singapore Quality Class (SQC) status in 2000. The SQC is a prestigious award which recognises organisations that have achieved a commendable level of performance in the journey towards business excellence. The aim is to be among world-class organisations that are able to achieve sustainable high performance in productivity and quality.

Superbrands

Gleneagles Hospital is proud to be awarded Superbrands status for three years running, 2002/2003, 2004 and in 2005.

The Superbrands status is awarded by an independent panel of judges. The panel seeks to identify the strongest corporate brands in the country. Only the most deserving of brands attain the credential.

Superbrands promotes the discipline of branding and pays tribute to exceptional brands. Only brands that have shown its worthiness in these five categories - Market Dominance, Longevity, Goodwill, Customer Loyalty and Overall Market Acceptance - can be known as a Superbrand.

In 2002/2003, out of the thousands of brands available in Singapore, only 108 were appointed a Superbrand. Out of the 108 brands, only 2 of them were hospitals - Gleneagles Hospital and sister hospital Mount Elizabeth.

Achieving the Superbrands status represents the recognition of consistent outstanding quality trusted by our patients and doctors.

Asian Hospital Management Award

Following win in year 2003 for the category of "Internal Service", Gleneagles Hospital has won again at the Asian Hospital Management Award 2004, this time for the category of 'Best Customer Service'.

Work Redesign Award

Speedy admission and prompt discharge is now a reality in Gleneagles!

Gleneagles is honoured to be the 1st hospital in Singapore to pioneer the redesign of the inpatient admission and discharge process through Work Redesign.

In recognition of this achievement, SPRING Singapore conferred Gleneagles the National Work Redesign Model Company Award in August 2004.
