Face Lifting with Aptos Thread or Russian Thread

Aptos Thread or Russian Thread is an alternative to the more surgically invasive face-lift. The threads are made from a fine, medical non-absorbable prolene fibre. The uniqueness of the fibre is the ‘bi-directional cog’ like design, which enables the thread to support and lift the skin and underlying tissue creating a fresher appearance. These threads are introduced in the skin using guides with fishbone-like openings that grab deep tissues and press them to stretch the area treated.

The Aptos thread is ideally suited for younger and middle-aged patients whose skin tone has become lax with time or sun damage. Russian threads are widely used on the face to improve the wrinkles around the nose and chin, lift eyebrows or get rid of hanging tissue around the cheek. A surgeon must evaluate the patient because in cases of severe flaccidity it is advisable to perform other surgical procedures.

Procedure Details

The procedure is usually performed under local anaesthesia with light sedation if required. Russian or Aptos threads are introduced under the skin to give it strength and get rid of wrinkles. Once the threads have been positioned through the tiny puncture sites, the threads are then gently tightened and secured to the facial tissue and skin. There is no need for any dressing to the face as the tiny holes close over within 1 to 2 days. The treatment takes around an hour and the results are immediately visible.

Aptos or Russian threads do not require the patient to stay at the hospital. The patient must take anti-inflammatory and antibiotic medication after surgery, nevertheless, inflammation is minimal so you would be able to go back to your daily routine soon.

After the Procedure

After the procedure you can be slightly swollen and bruised for 4 to 10 days depending on the number of areas that have been treated. After 2 days, patients are usually able to apply camouflage make-up to hide any of the pale bruising. In most cases, bruising and swelling is mild, however bruising and swelling can take up to 10 days to resolve.
