ISKCON Temple

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), also known as 'the Hare Krishna' movement, is one of several Vaishnava groups. It was founded in 1966 in New York City by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. While some classified it as a new religious movement, its core philosophy is based on scriptures such as the Srimad Bhagavatam and the Bhagavad-gita, both of which date back more than two millennia. The distinctive appearance of the movement and its culture come from the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, which has had adherents in India since the late 1400s and Western converts from early 1930s.

The Bangalore ISKCON temple, built to commemorate the birth centenary of the founder of ISKCON, Sri Prabhupada, is situated on a seven-acre hillock, known as the 'Hare Krishna Hill'. The Hare Krishna temple is a unique combination of glass and gopuram, blending modern and traditional elements. It represents a fusion between majestic traditional styles and bold new aesthetics.

Attractions that draw visitors to the Bangalore ISKCON are the beautifully decorated Rajagopuram and other gopurams, the ISKCON Vedic Theatre, Vedic museums and exhibit areas, and beautifully landscaped gardens. There is also an open-air amphitheatre for concerts and festivals.
