How do I begin to express the gratitude I have to strangers who gave me my life back? All done with compassion, love for their work and a dedication that is just not seen here in the United States.
Two years ago I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis on my right hip. Not a big surprise, as all of my family have had their right hip replaced. I began limping, shortening my walks and other activities, and this was very hard for me to do as I`ve studied and taught yoga for 30 years. My plan was to wait until I was 65 ( a five year wait at that time) when medicare would pay for the cost. The problem with that plan was that the pain was getting worse, my strength was diminishing, and forget about any more flexibility. The other thing that bothered me about waiting and having the surgery here, is that medicare would probably only have considered a total hip replacement, and the thought of having part of my leg cut completely off when it wasn`t necessary was abhorrent to me.
So I began to search on line for information. I had heard about hip resurfacing, but didn`t really know anything about it. I`m not really much of a researcher, especially on the Internet. I`m a hands on, let me see it, feel it, look at it and then intuitively I`ll know what to do, so I have to say that I really fell onto the Healthbase website. I looked at a couple of medical tourist companies (my extensive research) and then went back to the Healthbase website and registered for free. Within a few minutes I had a call from Moe. It was a Sunday afternoon and I was really surprised that someone would call on a Sunday. I later came to realize that Moe works tirelessly to assist people who are ready to make "their leap of faith" towards better health.
Initially I had several criteria that had to be there for me before committing to this process. One, it had to be hip resurfacing, anything else seemed barbaric. Two, the cost became a factor. I had insurance that I was pretty sure wouldn`t cover the expense and I was right. Three, the doctor had to have the credentials to prove that there wouldn`t be an "oops" moment, especially if I was half way round the world when the "oops" revealed itself.
Moe, helped us through all of the concerns, questions and "what happens now" moments. We had never traveled overseas before and Moe took us step by step through the processes. Now I know that we have all heard stories or had experiences where someone was suppose to be picked up at a certain time and place and it never happened. We`ve heard stories about going into surgery and having the wrong limb worked on (one of those oops moments I referred to earlier). Here is what we experienced with Healthbase and the Apollo Hospital. We were met at the airport in Delhi by our driver who took us to a guest house used by Healthbase. We were picked up in Chennai by the hospital to take us to a hotel the night before I checked into the hospital. We received a phone call the morning we were to be taken to the hospital by the hospital administrator telling us when and where to be for the driver. He came and we went to the hospital. In other words "NO DROPPED BALLS". We never called to confirm anything. Everyone we dealt with were professional, courteous, caring and friendly every step of the way. You just simply cannot have better service anywhere.
Others have given the details of their trip, and stay in India. I see no need to repeat what has already been said. What I would like to leave you with are a couple of things. One, I wish that I had not waited. You will have immediate relief from the pain you are now experiencing. Two, using Healthbase was the easiest way for us to handle traveling and tackling medical surgery half a world away. Moe and the staff at Healthbase will be there for you at every step and even after you return from India. Three, there is a way for it to all come together. I wasn`t sure how I was going to pay for all of this trip and surgery, but it came together. We met another man there who wasn`t certain how he was going to pay for his trip and through the generosity of friends and strangers with the same hobby, his trip was paid for. One of my favorite sayings is "leap and the net will appear". Making the decision is the hard part. Once it`s made things begin
to come together. So, if you`re reading this and still have doubts, throw them off. Take that leap and know that you are in the best care anywhere.

About Judy Denney RYT
Judy Denney RYT began her yoga career in 1973. She holds a degree in physical education, with an emphasis in dance and exercise physiology. Yoga became her passion, helping her with a chronic sciatic issue. Judy has been teaching yoga since 1976 and has since 1996 owned her own yoga studio. She is a registered yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance and often attends national yoga conventions and workshops to study with fellow yoga teachers which include Eric Schiffman, Angela Farmer, Victor Van Kooten, Judith Lasater, Rodney Yee and many more. "Eric, Angela and Victor have influenced my yoga practice over the last seven years. They have reconfirmed through their classes and workshops what I was feeling, that yoga needs to be taught with the focus of an inner awareness. As we move into each pose or asana, we need to feel it, become aware of where it is resisting and where it is responding and then, focus on those areas. Seeing people beam as they are in a pose is why I`ve continued to teach for so many years. I`ve passed the passion on. That is what teaching is about".
