Ron F - Texas

"Over the last year or so ( 2010 and 2011 ) I had been suffering with pain in my right side, which was mainly confined to the front right lower abdominal region. I have had problems with kidney stones ever since I was 12 years old, so I pretty much knew what was causing my pain. I had also deduced this because I have had two previous procedures to remove stones from my left kidney and CT scans had shown that I had a fairly large stone in my right kidney, too.

Because of the pre-existing condition that I have, I cannot get health insurance to cover the medical costs of anything related to diagnosis and removal of kidney stones. And my previous medical procedures in the United States costs a "pretty penny" to say the least. More about this later.

Years ago on a 60 Minutes story I saw an episode in which a man went to India to have open heart surgery and was treated as well or better than in the US and it cost him one tenth of the cost of surgery here in the United States. So I decided to go to India to have my kidney stone removed. But I had no contacts in India for this kind of thing even though I had traveled to India a few times before.

As chance would have it..... or what one may consider great good fortune, I found Healthbase International online during a Google search. There was a short form to fill out, which I did and within 24 hours I was contacted by Moe via telephone. Moe is located in the US and was very helpful and communicative throughout my pre trip arrangements.

Moe and his team set up everything in Delhi ( New Delhi ) at the hospital specializing in Renal care to the point where I had no concerns about anything once I arrived. Normally Healthbase has a driver at the airport to pick you up and transport you to the appropriate hospital for your care. But I had plans to go elsewhere in India upon my arrival and 8 days later arrived in New Delhi by train at 11 pm at night. There at the train station to pick me up were two young guys who drove me to a hotel because it was too late to go straight to the hospital. I think normally most patients would be taken straight to the hospital.

The hospital and doctors in India are just as competent as any in the world. And Moe and his team are connected with the best in India. My treatment included two different types of kidney stone removal and two nights in the hospital. The cost of these treatments and all tests , including a CT scan, cost about as much as 1 CT scan in the United States. Or basically about one tenth of what it would cost here.

And aftercare is also a concern of Healthbase International. After I was released from the hospital, I was driven by the owners of this establishment ( The Stay Inn ) from the hospital to their residence. I call it a residence instead of a hotel or B & B because you are mainly staying with them at their house. The Stay Inn is a gated property and totally functions as an all purpose hosting facility for recovering patients. For a package deal you get a nice room ( mine was huge ) and three meals a day and a concerned family to make sure your recovery goes smoothly. At one point during my recovery from a second round of Lithotripsy I started experiencing some pain and lots of discomfort. The lady of the house made sure I went back to the hospital so that the doctor  could evaluate the problem. To tell you the absolute truth, I didn't want to go back to the hospital for this because I was afraid that they might want to admit me again and I was having a perfectly great time at the Stay Inn and I wanted to stay there. Well, thanks to Ami, I was diagnosed with just a mild case of bruising and was sent back to my home away from home.

I would recommend ( and have already ) going to Healthbase International for any need you may have to get a medical problem addressed out of the country."
